Metropass it on!
The Commission is passing on added value to transit riders by approving the transferable monthly Metropass. The transferable monthly Metropass and the new transferable Weekly Pass are among the improvements promised to riders this year. Both are being introduced in September 2005.
The adult Metropasss and the adult Weekly Pass will not require that a photo ID be shown. This means that others can use the same Metropass or Weekly Pass when it is not in use by its owner. For example, one member of a family may use the Metropass to go to work weekdays and give the pass to other family or friends for evening or weekend use. A business can purchase a Metropass or Weekly Pass and make it available for any staff using the TTC for business. Only one person can travel on public transit at a time when the pass is used.
“These new transferable passes will produce a significant ridership gain and that’s what we want – to take cars off roads and put their drivers and passengers on the TTC,” said TTC Vice-Chair Joe Mihevc. “There will be a great new value to owning a TTC Metropass and I think the public will latch on to it right away.”
Senior and Student Metropasses and Weekly Passes will also be transferable, but only to other seniors and students. Those people using these passes must show their ID as proof of age.
