From The Big Smoke to The Big Apple, TTC Chair Karen Stintz was recently taking in a comparable view of subway construction at North America’s two largest systems recently. Pictured above is the Chair overseeing station and crossover construction at the site of the future Finch West Station near Finch and Keele back in April. The TTC is in the midst of building a $2.6-billion, 8.6-km-long subway extension into York Region, which is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2016.

... to New York City

Weeks later, Chair Stintz was in The Big Apple to check out tunnel work underway at the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). Pictured above is the Chair under Second Avenue, looking south from 72nd Street to 68th Street. The MTA is building a 3.2-km-long, $4.4-billion subway extension under the Upper East Side of the city. The first phase is scheduled to be completed in December 2016. If you’re wondering, a Toronto-New York City subway connection would be about 750 kilometres long.
