CEO Andy Byford addressed The Canadian Club of Toronto on June 3.

Byford participated in a panel discussion with Toronto Community Housing President and CEO Eugene Jones Jr., and which also featured Toronto Star columnist Royson James as moderator.

The topic was about the future of public services in Toronto. The majority of the transit conversation dealt with TTC culture change, the newly released Five-Year Corporate Plan, transit expansion and the quest for stable funding.

“I think it’s critically important that we have a national transit policy that makes compelling sense to politicians,” said Byford. “The reason I say ‘compelling sense’ is if we create that link between a well-functioning transit system and a booming economy – which brings with it jobs and national prosperity – then it’s a no-brainer. But we have a ways to go to making that link so I will keep banging the table for affordable, sustainable funding.”

The discussion at the Royal York Hotel was broadcast live on Rogers Cable 10. Last month, Byford delivered a speech to the Empire Club of Canada.
