PRESTO ON TTC

Car 4404 became the third new streetcar in service on the Spadina route on Nov. 30, and the first of two new vehicles (along with 4400) to be activated with PRESTO smart card technology.

“Car 4403 is scheduled back in service on Tuesday (Dec. 2), adding a third new accessible streetcar with PRESTO fare payment functionality,” said Farecard Project Manager Allan Foster. “The off-board fare payment devices located at select stops along the 510 route are scheduled to be replaced with PRESTO equipment before the end of December.”

TTC and PRESTO Ambassadors will be assisting customers for the next several weeks. TTC Transit Fare Inspectors are also able to check PRESTO cards for correct fare payment using PRESTO hand-held devices.

PRESTO was updated this past weekend to support Senior, Post-Secondary, Student and Child (age six to 12 only) concession fares. The Child concession age group two to 12 years remains unchanged.

Spadina Station is the 15th subway station with PRESTO fare payment equipment.

PRESTO technology is coming to the TTC in multiple phases, beginning with card readers and PRESTO fare/transfer machines on board the first 50 accessible streetcars going into service on the Spadina, Bathurst, Harbourfront and Dundas routes.
