EC&E staff leading appeal for donations to flood victims in Serbia and the Balkans
June 12 update: I would like to thank everyone who donated to flood victims in Serbia. You help is really appreciated. Situation is slowly stabilizing and getting better on the surface. In reality, it will take years for a huge number of people to get back to normal life and lots of help is still needed. In the Engineering Department (6th floor, 5140 Yonge only), we collected goods for six full trunks of my SUV, which I took to the donation site. As of yesterday, two huge containers with donations were already sent to Serbia. A plane with new donations is going to fly on Friday. At this point of time, I was told that they are not accepting any more donations in goods. Financial donations are now most required and can still be made to the Balkan Floods Fund (tax receipts will be provided) through the Canadian Red Cross here: https://secure.redcross.ca/registrant/donate.aspx?eventid=148948.
Thank you again,
Predrag Petrovic, P. Eng.

Serbia and the Balkans have been devastated with the worst flooding and landslides in over a century.
Tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes and villages with many still waiting to be rescued. Catastrophic river floods have devastated swaths of agricultural lands. Many are without drinking water and the death toll is yet to be determined.
The region is receiving help from abroad, but much more is needed. The TTC is asking all employees to please consider making a donation. Your support, monetary or otherwise, is needed desperately.
Financial donations to the Balkan Floods Fund can be made through the Canadian Red Cross here: https://secure.redcross.ca/registrant/donate.aspx?eventid=148948.
The Canadian-Serbian Chamber of Commerce is accepting emergency donations for shipment, which include: personal hygiene items, canned and children foods, diapers, children and adult clothing and shoes. Boxed items can be dropped off at: MTT, 123 Eastside Dr., Etobicoke, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays between 5:30-9 p.m. and on Saturdays between 9 a.m.-noon.
