POP STARTS ON ALL STREETCAR ROUTES DEC. 14

Starting on Monday (Dec. 14, 2015) proof of payment (POP) and all-door boarding will be effective on all 11 streetcar routes.

Starting on Monday (Dec. 14, 2015) proof of payment (POP) and all-door boarding will be effective on all 11 streetcar routes.

TTC riders with POP will be able to board any streetcar through any door. Customers paying by cash, ticket or token will still need to board at the front doors and take a transfer as their proof of payment.

The change to POP is expected to lead to shorter journey times and improve traffic flow, particularly in the downtown core. The streetcar network carries about 250,000 daily riders and it’s estimated that nearly 20 per cent of a streetcar’s journey is spent servicing stops. The introduction of POP is expected to speed journey times and reliability by at least seven per cent.

Fare Inspectors will be boarding vehicles and visiting stops to ensure customers have POP and are paying the correct fare. The fine for failing to have proof of payment is $235.

POP/all-door boarding was launched on the 504 King route on Jan. 1 of this year.
