TTC connecting and collecting more off-peak riders

More service improvements designed to reduce wait times and crowding levels were announced on July 27 at Finch Station by Mayor John Tory and TTC Chair Josh Colle.

Starting this September, 33 of the TTC’s busiest bus and streetcar routes will see more frequent service in the off-peak period, which is where the TTC is experiencing its greatest ridership growth.

“55 million customer trips each year will benefit from these service improvements, as well as attract an estimated two million new riders,” Colle said.

The TTC Board votes on the service improvements on July 29.

“This is a very direct part of our poverty reduction strategy,” Tory added. “Improved access to public transit is fundamental to our ability to address poverty in the city because the best anti-poverty program is a good, secure job and people need to stay connected to jobs.”
