The newly formed Advisory Committee on Accessible Transit (ACAT) met for the first time last month. The committee voted Mazin Aribi as Chair and Debbie Gillespie and Angela Rebeiro as Vice-Chairs.

ACAT is comprised of 15 Toronto citizens who advise members of the TTC on difficulties faced by people with disabilities and seniors, and recommends the elimination of barriers to accessible public transit. The committee generally meets in public on the last Thursday of every month at TTC Head Office (above Davisville Station).

Last December, the TTC Board announced five new ACAT members: Gillespie, Angela Marley, Lynn McCormick, Raymond Dell’Aera and Louise Bark. They joined Karma Burkhar, Jaspreet Dhaliwal, Margaret Hageman, Joan Jordan, Marian McDonell, Bobbi Moore, Valdo Tammark and Howard Wax. Commissioners also thanked outgoing members: Craig Nicol, Tim Rose, Judy Berger and Sam Savona.

On Feb. 12, ACAT solemnly remembers the late Susan Davidson, former ACAT Chair, who died suddenly a year ago.

“It has been a year since we unexpectedly lost our colleague, Susan Davidson. Susan was an inspiration to those who worked with her for many years, and she is sadly missed by everyone she worked with at ACAT,” Aribi said.
