New fare rates took effect Jan. 3, 2016
A fare hike in line with the rate of inflation, approved by the TTC Board on Nov. 23, 2015, took effect on Jan. 3.
The Board approved a 10-cent increase in the price of a single Adult token ($2.90 from $2.80) and proportionate increases to other fares, and a 25-cent increase in the Adult Cash. Board members also approved a price freeze on Metropasses as well as a price freeze on all Senior and Student fares (including Cash) pending the City-led review of the Framework for Transit Fare Equity report due in the first quarter of 2016.
Price changes also saw a 50-cent increase to Day/Family passes and a $1.50 increase to Adult Weekly Passes and Downtown Express Stickers.
This year is the last full year that the Metropass will be sold in its current format before transitioning to the PRESTO fare card. So the TTC has is selling the 2016 Metropass collector series. Every one-month pass will feature an iconic Toronto image, and include a clue to the following month’s design. All 12 months collected with make a unique TTC collectible that celebrates the city. More than 321,000 customers purchase a Metropass each month.
The Metropass was first introduced in 1980.
