The Leadership Exchange and Development Program (LEAD for short) has brought leaders from several U.S. properties to Toronto to hear about the TTC’s experiences and approaches to challenges it faces – ranging from government funding to day-to-day operations.

The visit is hosted by the TTC’s LEAD representatives, Subway Transportation Head Jim Ross and Bus Transportation Head Kirsten Watson.

Today, LEAD participants are visiting Head Office, Duncan Shop and Transit Control. On Monday, participants heard from Toronto Mayor John Tory, TTC Chair Josh Colle and CEO Andy Byford on the importance of transit in Toronto. Throughout the week, discussions will involve topics such as intergovernmental relations, reputation management and system accessibility.

Participants are visiting from New York City, Newark, Chicago, Philadelphia, Boston and Newington and work in the fields of operations, administration, engineering and legal.

LEAD’s goal is to promote best practices and develop future senior leaders. The visit wraps up on Friday with closing remarks from Byford.
