May 2017 Board Period Service Changes

HIGHLIGHTS

LINE 1 YONGE-UNIVERSITY
Downsview Station, the current north-westerly terminus station on Line 1 Yonge-University, will be renamed in May to Sheppard West Station. The name change is being introduced well in advance of the Line 1 extension opening when the next station north of Downsview – Downsview Park – will open for business.

Royal York Station – bus loop closes for construction.
15 Evans – Serves Royal York Station via stops on Royal York Road.
22 Coxwell – Buses return to Coxwell Station, with completion of TTC station work.
48 Rathburn – Serves Royal York Station via stops on Royal York Road.
70 O’Connor – Buses return to Coxwell Station, with completion of TTC station work.
73 Royal York – Serves Royal York Station via stops on Royal York Road.
76 Royal York South – Serves Royal York Station via stops on Royal York Road.
86 Scarborough – Seasonal weekend service to Toronto Zoo.
121 Fort York-Esplanade – Seasonal service to Cherry Beach.
165 Weston Rd North – Seasonal weekend service to Canada’s Wonderland.
501/301 Queen – Temporary bus operation for various construction projects.
503 Kingston Rd – Streetcars return temporarily to free up buses for 501 Queen.
504 King – All supplementary buses replaced by streetcars to free up buses for 501 Queen.
505 Dundas – Temporary diversion and shuttle bus operation for track work at Parliament Street.
511 Bathurst – Streetcars return to free up buses for 501 Queen.

5 Avenue Rd

  • Schedule change – Metrolinx construction
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    Service will be changed during the late evening from Monday to Friday, during the evening on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. During the late evening from Monday to Friday and the evening on Saturday, the service will change to every 24 minutes. During the evening on Sunday and holidays, the service will change to every 20 minutes.

7 Bathurst

  • Schedule change – Metrolinx construction
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be changed in the early evening from Monday to Friday. The service will change to every nine-to-10 minutes.

15 Evans

  • Temporary route change at Royal York Station – TTC construction
    Customer impact: Major
    Effective date: May 7
    Buses will not enter Royal York Station during major construction work at the station. Customers will board southbound buses at a temporary stop southbound on Royal York Road, north of Bloor Street. Customers will alight from northbound buses at a temporary stop northbound on Royal York Road just outside the station entrance. Customers using cash, tokens or tickets will have to use a paper transfer when transferring to or from Royal York Station. Customers using PRESTO will have to tap in when entering the station, and will have to tap on when boarding buses. Service levels will change at many times of the week, and specific trip times will be different.

16 McCowan

  • Temporary route change at Coxwell Station ends 
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    TTC construction at Coxwell Station ends and the Sunday late evening interlined operation with 70 O’Connor will resume.

22 Coxwell

  • Temporary route change at Coxwell Station ends 
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    TTC construction at Coxwell Station ends and the route will return to regular routing.

34 Eglinton East

  • Schedule change/Service reliability improvement
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    The schedule for the 34C (Eglinton Stn-Flemingdon Park) branch will be modified to improve service reliability. Service levels will be improved slightly and trip times will change.

38 Highland Creek

  • Seasonal service reduction 
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced during the midday and afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to and from Centennial College, Ellesmere Campus and U of T Scarborough. During the midday the combined service west of U of T Scarborough will change to every seven-to-eight minutes, and the service east of U of T Scarborough to Rouge Hill GO Station will change to every 15 minutes. During the afternoon peak period the combined service west of U of T Scarborough will change to every eight minutes, and the service east of U of T Scarborough to Rouge Hill GO Station will change to every 16 minutes.

41 Keele

  • Seasonal service reduction
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced on the 41E (Keele Stn-York University Express) branch during the peak periods from Monday to Friday as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to York University. In the morning peak period, the 41E express service will change to every 15-to-16 minutes, and in the afternoon peak period to every 16-to-17 minutes.

44 Kipling South 

  • Seasonal service reduction 
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced during the peak periods and midday, from Monday to Friday, as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to Humber College Lake Shore Campus. During the morning and afternoon peak periods, the service will change to every five-to-six minutes. In the midday, the service will change to every eight minutes.

48 Rathburn

    Buses will not enter Royal York Station during major construction work at the station. Customers will board northbound buses at a temporary stop northbound on Royal York Road just outside the station. Customers will alight from southbound buses at a temporary stop southbound on Royal York Road north of Bloor Street. Customers using cash, tokens or tickets will have to use a paper transfer when transferring to or from Royal York Station. Customers using PRESTO will have to tap in when entering the station, and will have to tap on when boarding buses. Service levels will change at many times of the week, and specific trip times will be different. As a result of these changes, the special trips to Michael Power/St. Joseph High School in the morning, from Monday to Friday, will change. Buses will be scheduled to depart from the temporary stop northbound on Royal York Road just outside the station at 7:32 a.m. and 7:56 a.m. There will be no change to the special trips from the school in the afternoon.

51 Leslie

  • Schedule change – Metrolinx construction
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    Service will be changed during the late evening, seven days a week. The service will change from to every 25 minutes.

56 Leaside

    Service will be changed during the late evening from Monday to Friday, during the evening on Saturday, Sunday and holidays. The service will change to every 24 minutes.

60 Steeles West

  • Seasonal service reduction
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced during the peak periods, from Monday to Friday on the 60F (Finch Stn-York University Express) branch as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to York University. In the morning peak period, the service will change to every 11 minutes. In the afternoon peak period, the service will change to every 15-to-16 minutes. There is no change to the local services.

61 Avenue Rd North

  • Schedule change – Metrolinx construction
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    Service will be changed during the late evening seven days a week. The service will change to every 20 minutes.

65 Parliament

  • Temporary route and service change
    Customer impact: Major
    Effective date: May 7
    Buses will be diverted, every day, via Shuter Street, Sherbourne Street and Gerrard Street, in both directions, to permit track rehabilitation work on Dundas Street at the intersection with Parliament Street. The service will run every 10-to-12 minutes during the peak periods, and midday, and every 15 minutes at other times.

70 O’Connor

  • Temporary route change at Coxwell Station ends 
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    TTC construction at Coxwell Station ends and the route will return to regular routing.

73 Royal York

In the morning peak period, the service will change to every five-to-six minutes. In the midday, the service will change to every eight minutes. In the afternoon peak period, the service will change to every seven-to-eight minutes.

76 Royal York South

85 Sheppard East

  • Hours of service to Toronto Zoo – Seasonal service change
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 7
    Later service will be operated scheduled from the Toronto Zoo in the early evening on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, beginning on Sunday, May 7 to match the later closing time of the zoo, at 7 p.m. The last trip on the 85D (Don Mills Stn-Rouge Hill GO Stn via Toronto Zoo) and 85F (Don Mills Stn-Toronto Zoo) branches will leave from the zoo at approximately 8 p.m.

86 Scarborough 

  • Hours of service to Toronto Zoo – Seasonal service change
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 6
    Later service will be operated from the Toronto Zoo, Monday to Friday, to match the later closing time of the zoo at 7 p.m. The 86A (Kennedy Stn-Toronto Zoo) branch will operate until 8 p.m.
  • Seasonal weekend service to Toronto Zoo
    The route will be extended to the Toronto Zoo on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, beginning on Saturday, May 6. Buses will follow the same routing to the zoo as they do from Monday to Friday. Service will extend until 8 p.m. every day of the week.

92 Woodbine South

  • Seasonal service increase
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 7
    Service will be increased on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, to accommodate increased summer ridership to and from the lake shore. With this change, service will operate every five minute during the day, and every seven-to-10 minutes in the evenings.

121 Fort York-Esplanade

  • Seasonal service change
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 7
    Service will be extended to Cherry Beach at all times. All service will operate on the 121C (Princes’ Gate-Cherry Beach) branch. Buses will operate every 13-to-14 minutes in the peak periods and every 16-to-24 minutes during other off-peak times.

134 Progress 

  • Seasonal service reduction
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced during the morning peak period, midday and afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday on the 134C (Scarborough Centre Stn-Centennial College) branch only as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to Centennial College. In the morning peak period, the service will change to every six-to-seven minutes. In the midday, the service will change to every eight-to-nine minutes. In the afternoon peak period, the service will change to every eight-to-nine minutes.

143 Downtown/Beach Express

  • Schedule change
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    The schedule will be changed for the first two eastbound and westbound trips in the afternoon peak period to reflect actual operating conditions.

165 Weston Rd North 

  • Seasonal route extension – York Region Transit request
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    At the request of York Region Transit, service will be extended to Canada’s Wonderland, on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from Sunday, April 30 to Sunday, October 29. The extended service will operate from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 10:50 p.m. on Saturdays, and from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. Buses to the park will operate every 20-to-45 minutes. Trip times in Toronto will not change. Customers travelling on 165 Weston Rd North buses north of Steeles Avenue are required to pay a valid York Region Transit fare.

188 Kipling South Rocket

    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced from Monday to Friday as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to Humber College Lake Shore Campus. The service will change to every 10 minutes.

191 Highway 27 Rocket 

  • Seasonal service reduction 
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced in the midday and afternoon peak period from Monday to Friday as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to Humber College. In the midday, the service will change to every six-to-seven minutes. In the afternoon peak period, the service will change to every four-to-five minutes. Several trips on the 191A (Humber College-Kipling Stn) branch will be removed for the summer.

195 Jane Rocket

  • Seasonal service reduction
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced from Monday to Friday as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to York University. In the morning peak period, the service will change to every nine-to-10 minutes. In the midday, afternoon peak period and early evening, the service will change to every 12 minutes.

196 York University Rocket

  • Seasonal service reduction
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced from Monday to Friday as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to and from York University. Between Sheppard West (formerly Downsview) Station and York University, in the morning peak period, the midday and the afternoon peak period, the service will change to every three-to-four minutes. In the early evening, the service will change to every four-to-five minutes. Service from Sheppard-Yonge Station to York U will change to every six-to-seven minutes in the morning peak period, the midday and the afternoon peak period. The service will change to every nine-to-10 minutes in the early evening.

198 U of T Scarborough Rocket

  • Seasonal service reduction 
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced during the peak periods and midday from Monday to Friday as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to U of T Scarborough and Centennial College. The service will change to every 12 minutes.

199 Finch Rocket

  • Seasonal service reduction 
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 8
    Service will be reduced on the 199B (Scarborough Centre-York University) branch during the morning peak period and midday as ridership declines due to a reduction in the number of students travelling to and from York University. In the morning peak period, the service will change to every 11-to-12 minutes. In the midday, the service will change to every 12-to-13 minutes. There will be no change to the afternoon peak period.

315 Evans-Browns Line 

  • Temporary route change at Royal York Station 
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 7
    Buses will be extended to Islington Station via Bloor Street, and will not be entering Royal York Station during major work at the station. Service will operate every 30 minutes.

501/301 Queen

  • Temporary bus replacement – TTC and City construction 
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 7
    The route will be temporarily replaced by buses to permit several construction projects:
  • TTC track and overhead replacement on The Queensway, at Humber Loop, and on Lake Shore.
  • City construction on The Queensway bridge over the Humber River.
  • City construction on Queen between Spadina and Bathurst.
  • Overhead pedestrian bridge construction at the Eaton Centre.
  • City water construction on Queen at Coxwell.

With this change, two daytime branches will be operated – 501L Neville Park-Long Branch and 501P Neville Park-Park Lawn. Overnight service will be provided by a 301L Neville Park-Long Branch.

503 Kingston Rd

  • Streetcar operation resumes
  • Temporary route extension for construction
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 7
    Streetcars will return to operation on this route, and will be diverted to operate via King Street to Spadina Avenue, because of City road and TTC track construction on Wellington Street. The service will operate every 12 minutes.

505 Dundas 

  • Track work at Dundas and Parliament 
    Customer impact: Major
    Effective date: May 7
    Streetcars will be diverted, every day, to permit track rehabilitation work on Dundas Street at the intersection with Parliament Street. Because of the diversion required for the City’s water main work between Yonge and Church, streetcars will divert via Gerrard Street, Parliament Street, Carlton Street/College Street and Bay Street in both directions. A shuttle bus service between Broadview Avenue and Bay Street will be operated.

509 Harbourfront

  • New accessible service 
  • Heritage streetcar operation 
  • Seasonal service increase
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    All runs are now operated with the new, low-floor streetcars, seven days a week. The route is marked as accessible service. The service will be increased during evenings on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, because of increased summer travel. The service will operate every six-to-seven minutes.

On Sunday afternoons, from the Victoria Day to the Labour Day weekend, a heritage Presidents Conference Committee (PCC) streetcar will be operated on the 509 Harbourfront route. The car will operate from approximately 12 noon to 5 p.m. The car will not be formally scheduled or crewed and is subject to vehicle availability.

511 Bathurst

  • Streetcar operation resumes 
    Customer impact: Minor
    Effective date: May 7
    Streetcars will return to operation on this route. One branch will be operated between Bathurst Station and Exhibition. The service will operate every five-to-six minutes during the peak periods, and from every five-to-six minutes to every 10 minutes during other off-peak times.

514 Cherry 

  • Temporary service increase ends
    Customer impact: Moderate
    Effective date: May 7
    With the ongoing delivery of new, low-floor streetcars, all runs on this route can now be operated with the higher capacity streetcars. The additional midday service that was added in the September 2016 Board Period to provide additional capacity will be removed. The service will change to every 15 minutes.

Victoria Day holiday weekend service

Details for service around the Victoria Day holiday weekend are:

Victoria Day, Monday, May 22
A regular holiday service will be operated on most TTC routes (see below for exceptions).
The TTC has designated Monday, May 22, as a holiday for its employees, and there will be a special holiday sign-up, using holiday crewing rules. Additional service is also scheduled for the Ashbridges Bay fireworks celebration. This service will be co-ordinated by Closures and Diversions.
