TTC, City to recognize Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day in Toronto

This Fri., Mar. 18 is being recognized as Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day in the city of Toronto.

The day is declared by Mayor John Tory and is an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the 16,000 TTC transit operators and workers who keep Toronto moving safely.

“Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day provides us with a chance to recognize the hard work and dedication of our 16,000 TTC workers, and their commitment to keeping people moving safely across the city,” said Mayor John Tory. “Their commitment to our residents and our city has helped us navigate these unprecedented times and we are grateful for the work they are doing now to keep our system safe and reliable as more and more people return to the office and take the TTC.”

“For a century, TTC employees have kept Toronto moving. Our employees have been on the frontlines since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, getting Torontonians to where they need to go safely and conveniently. This Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day, I hope that everyone will join me in thanking transit workers for all that they have done and continue to do to support our city,” said TTC Chair Jaye Robinson.

“Transit operators and workers are the unsung heroes that keep this city moving,” said TTC CEO Rick Leary. “From the bus operators, to the mechanics, to the people who work overnight to maintain the subway infrastructure, our employees give 100 per cent every day to ensure that customers can reliably get to their jobs, schools and around the city. I want to say a special thank you to all our employees on Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day for the excellent work that they do.”

The TTC will be recognizing employees internally and externally through a number of initiatives, including giveaways, employee contests and videos. Customers who wish to participate are encouraged to thank a TTC employee on Fri., March 18.

Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day is celebrated on March 18 across North America.
