Appointment of Chief Operating Officer
I am pleased to announce the following appointment to lead the TTC Operations Group.
Gary Shortt is appointed to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Gary brings 30 years’ experience with the TTC to the COO role, a position that he has covered, on an acting basis, since October 2013. Gary’s challenge is to drive up performance of all aspects of our back-of-house (non-customer-facing) operation, including infrastructure management, streetcar/bus maintenance and delivery of Operations Group-led projects.
In parallel, Gary has specific direction from me to continue work to transform the underlying culture in the Operations Group, recognizing the link between management style and employee motivation and performance.
A further announcement will be made in due course to appoint the currently vacant position of Deputy Chief Operating Officer (DCOO). Until that time, John Chamberlain will continue to cover the position of DCOO.
Gary’s appointment takes immediate effect. Please join me in welcoming Gary to his new role – one that is critical to our ongoing drive to deliver a transit system that makes Toronto proud.
Andy Byford
