Dear Colleagues,

We now have the results of the second TTC Employee Engagement Survey (EES). R.A. Malatest and Associates, the research company that conducted the survey last fall, has analyzed the data and created results reports with the utmost attention to confidentiality and accuracy.

The EES is one of the most important tools we have to help us create a working environment that is supportive, fair and in which good people feel engaged. It directly supports our Employee Charter and the “People” objective of our Five-Year Corporate Plan.

So how did we do? In total, 5,855 TTC employees participated, which is a notable increase from last cycle. Forty-two per cent of TTC employees made the effort to provide their feedback in 2016, compared to 36 per cent in 2014. We also saw an impressive nine per cent increase in participation amongst our unionized employees (from 23 per cent in 2014 to 32 per cent in 2016). This is a good result, and it shows that more people trust the process today than two years ago.

In terms of the level of engagement, or satisfaction with TTC as an employer, the score was stable. On a scale from 1 to 10 (1 being low, 10 being high), overall engagement across all of the TTC was at 7.7 (compared to 7.8 in 2014). Departmental results will vary, and you will be provided with more details for your department. Results are also available at the group and departmental levels on the EES SharePoint site (internal website).

We know that the results aren’t perfect. There’s more we need to do to address the areas you’d like to see us improve in – and that’s really the point of regularly asking for your feedback. The EES process allows us to measure what kind of progress we’ve made compared to the past. More importantly, it makes your leaders accountable to set goals for future improvements.

Your leaders will be taking important steps to act on your feedback. They’re being provided with all the material they need to share survey results with you, lead action planning workshops, create and implement action plans, and communicate back to you about what they’ve done. Many positive changes were made based on what we heard in 2014. I know that your leaders will continue to act on your feedback.

We are committed to working together to improve the TTC, and that makes you a key part of the process. If you have a chance to participate in an action planning workshop, please do – your feedback matters.

Above all, I want to thank you for participating in the survey and having your say. If you have any questions about the results, you can speak with your Supervisor, Manager or Department Head, review the EES FAQs or e-mail your questions to EmployeeEngagementSurvey@ttc.ca.

Thank you.
