Message from the Executives

LEAD returns to Toronto

Starting on Sunday, June 3 and through to June 8, the TTC will be hosting a new group of participants in the Leadership Exchange and Development Program (LEAD). LEAD is a year-and-a-half long learning initiative designed for experienced transit managers and leaders to develop and advance into executive-level positions.

As part of our succession planning efforts, we first hosted LEAD in 2016. Representing us then was Kirsten Watson, now our Acting Deputy CEO/Chief Customer Officer, and Jim Ross, currently Acting COO.

This year, the TTC is represented by Megan MacRae, Executive Director of Human Resources and Rich Wong, Head of Streetcar Maintenance and Infrastructure.

Over the course of the week, they will be actively engaging with transit leaders from New York, Boston, Chicago, New Jersey, Philadelphia and Newington, Connecticut. These delegates are leaders in operations, maintenance, planning, safety, administration and customer experience. The presentations and site visits planned are an important opportunity for us to share and adopt best practices, participate in candid discussions about the industry and foster a network of talented and promising future top executives.

On Monday, I will be delivering a keynote speech highlighting our new Five-Year Plan. Beyond that, numerous site visits are planned through next week so you might see the group in your neighbourhood:

  • On Monday, the group will be at Russell Carhouse and Leslie Barns.
  • On Tuesday, they will be taking a tour of the Eglinton Crosstown construction.
  • On Wednesday, the group will visit Wilson Complex in the morning before heading north to see our new stations on the Line 1 extension.
  • On their final stop on Thursday, they visit Hillcrest to see our facilities at Harvey and Duncan shops, and of course Transit Control.

We are looking forward to a great week of leadership development. Please feel free to introduce yourself if we’re in your workplace and help make our visitors feel welcome.

Thank you.

Richard J. Leary
