Appointment of General Counsel: Michael Atlas

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Michael Atlas is the new General Counsel for the TTC. Michael is an outstanding individual who has been part of this organization for over 20 years and has continuously shown his dedication to both the TTC and the customers that we serve; and on a personal note I cannot thank Michael enough for the work he has done to support me since starting here.

Previously, Michael was the TTC’s Associate General Counsel and since the spring had taken on the role of General Counsel (acting) while we performed an executive search for the General Counsel role.

Michael began his legal career at the TTC as an articling student. His practice entails providing legal and strategic advice in a number of areas such as procurement, construction, infrastructure, design, as well as strategic matters relating to the TTC Board. Michael has been involved in a variety of commercial matters at the organization with respect to infrastructure and vehicle projects, including subway expansion, bus and streetcar garages, state of good repair, as well as the purchase of buses, streetcars and subways. He also advises on general privacy and governance matters.

Michael is currently a Board Member of the TTC Pension Fund as well as the TTC Insurance Company Limited. Michael is also a team captain for the annual Gutsy Walk, a fundraising program for Crohn’s and Colitis Canada.

Michael received his law degree from Western University and has an undergraduate degree in Political Science from York University. He was called to the Ontario Bar in 1999.
