From the CEO: Operator assault, health and wellness supports

Office of the Chief Executive

This afternoon (February 16) one of our own, a bus Operator, was stabbed while on duty. I have spent the afternoon at the hospital along with ATU Local 113 President Marvin Alfred and have had the opportunity to speak with the employee’s family. He is in stable condition and I know you all join me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

I know how concerning this is for you. Your safety and the safety of our customers is the most important thing to me. Today’s incident is a sad reminder of the challenges you face every day and a reminder of how mindful we all need to be. I cannot stress this enough – please remember to follow all safety protocols. If there is an issue please call Transit Control immediately, they are here to help you.

I know today’s event is upsetting. Please remember that supports are available. The immediate and confidential Employee Family and Assistance Program (EFAP, also known as Lifeworks) is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To get in touch with EFAP please call 1-800-572-0039 or TTY at 1-877-338-0275. You can also access these supports on the MyEAP App or online at workhealthlife.com.

We are working closely with Toronto Police Service who continue to investigate this incident.

Stay safe.
