March 4 is recognized as Employee Appreciation Day. Today, I would like to say a big thank you to all TTC employees. In the weeks leading up to Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day on March 18, the TTC will be embarking on a campaign to recognize and celebrate your dedication and commitment to our customers and co-workers. One day is simply not enough.

Several initiatives will take place across the commission to acknowledge the vital work that has been achieved, especially over the course of the pandemic. We have contests, giveaways and so much more planned. You can learn about some of these plans in this week’s newsletter. I encourage you to also visit MyTTC | SAP Jam throughout the next two weeks to learn more.

Staying vigilant as COVID-19 restrictions lift
As I’m sure you’re all aware, earlier this week the province lifted more COVID-19 restrictions, including indoor and outdoor capacity limits. We’ve already seen capacity crowds return to Scotiabank Arena for the Raptors and Leafs games this week. At the same time, the City’s mask by-law remains in effect. Most importantly for us, wearing a mask or face covering remains a requirement for customers riding the system, and medical-grade masks and physical distancing for employees and contractors continues in the workplace.

Although public health indicators continue to point in the right direction, we continue to follow the advice of public health officials when it comes to the well-being of our employees and customers. As ridership begins to return, it’s essential that we remain personally vigilant and continue following proper infection prevention and control measures. We’ll make sure to keep you informed of any updates in this area.

One final note, I’d like to remind everyone that next week the TTC celebrates International Women’s Day on March 8. This year’s theme is Break the Bias. I’m looking forward to recognizing the achievements and contributions of women across the organization. This is one more way we’re building a more inclusive TTC.
