Ridership trending in the right direction

With Toronto’s COVID-19 emergency declaration officially lifted earlier in the month, and with so many of our favourite venues, restaurants and attractions fully opened for business, the TTC continues to see gradual ridership increases across the network.

As of the week ending May 13, bus boardings lead the way at 64 per cent of pre-COVID levels with streetcar and subway boardings at 54 per cent and 49 per cent, respectively.

We’re expecting the upwards trend to continue through the remainder of spring as we restore service levels to routes across the city. Additional service improvements are planned for the June Board Period, which starts on Sunday, June 19.

Bay Lower opens its doors to Toronto
If you and your family are looking for something unusual to do this weekend, Bay Lower is open to the public this Saturday as part of Doors Open Toronto. Bay Lower is one of Toronto’s hidden treasures, and although closed to the public since 1966, the station below Bay Station has appeared in numerous feature films, music videos and television commercials over the years.

Visitors can enjoy displays highlighting the 100th anniversary of the TTC and pick up some complimentary souvenirs. The event is free to everyone and takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. I’d like to stress that mask wearing for customers and employees continues to be a requirement on the TTC through to June 11 – and that includes Bay Lower.

Don’t hesitate to nominate
And finally, tomorrow is the deadline to submit a nomination to the Rewards and Recognition program. Please take a moment to recognize a co-worker’s hard work or outstanding achievement when it comes to customer service, diversity, leadership, teamwork, safety, and innovation and creativity. All employees can participate in the nomination process, and all employees are eligible for recognition.

Don’t forget to explore and celebrate the city safely.
