Updating your beneficiary information
The Human Resources Department is reminding all employees to update their group life insurance beneficiary information by completing a TTC Group Life Insurance Beneficiary Card.
Your beneficiary card is an important record. It is vital that you routinely review and update all of your beneficiary designations. Your beneficiary is the person, or persons, who you decide will receive any benefits payable from your group life insurance after your death.
Beneficiary cards are available at all work locations or from Benefit Services – Human Resources at Hillcrest. There are three types of beneficiary cards: Basic Group Life, Supplemental Group Life and Optional Group Life. Most employees with life insurance benefits have Basic Group Life Insurance only. Please note: designating a beneficiary for your TTC group life insurance is different from designating a beneficiary for your TTC pension.
A will is another very important document that must be given serious consideration. A will allows you to exercise control over the distribution of your assets; allows you to express your wishes for guardianship and care of your under-age children; and allows you to reduce your tax liabilities after your death. For more information about powers of attorney, living wills and qualified lawyers, please visit www.attorneygeneral.jus.gov.on.ca.
If you have any questions, or require more information, please contact staff in the Human Resources Department: Maddy Hoogstraten, Benefits Specialist, at ext. 2635 or Pat Daniels, Director – Benefit Services, at ext. 4370.
EFAP can help
The TTC’s Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) provides confidential counselling services and connects employees and their family to a network of dedicated professionals, including counsellors, psychologists, social workers and other professionals.
You and your family can receive support over the telephone, in person, online or through a variety of self-guided resources. You can call the TTC’s EFAP provider, Shepell-fgi, anytime, 24 hours a day, toll-free at 1-800-572-0039 and it’s always confidential – the TTC is never informed about an individual employee’s request to speak with someone.
