Message to Operators

Last fall, the Ontario Ministry of Labour ordered the TTC to review sight lines relating to bike racks on Nova LFS articulated buses. As a result, rules for proper use of bicycle racks have been changed to ensure continued safety of our Operators and customers, and all road users.

Bicycle racks on the following buses will now be restricted to carrying one bicycle only:

  • Nova LFS articulated buses (bus numbers 9000 to 9152).
  • Nova 40-foot buses (arriving later this spring, bus numbers 8400-8504.

The restricted bike racks will be locked and clearly labeled. All other TTC buses may still carry two bicycles on the front-end bike racks.

For all bikes in bike racks, large objects and loose items (such as baskets, child seats, water bottles, saddle bags, etc.) must also be removed. If the item cannot be removed, you may refuse use of the bike rack to ensure your sight lines are not impeded.

Bikes may be brought on board the bus during off-peak periods, if space permits and at your discretion.

This change reflects the TTC’s continued commitment to safety.

Bus bicycle racks are an important part of customer service. This service will continue to be delivered in a safe manner in accordance with the review of the Ministry of Labour.
