From the Service Delivery & Operations Groups

As you are well aware, vehicle and pedestrian traffic increases significantly starting in September as summer vacations end and classes return.

ATTENTION OPERATORS

Back to school rush has returned

(EXTRA CARE REQUIRED)

As you are well aware, vehicle and pedestrian traffic increases significantly starting in September as summer vacations end and classes return.

Operators must contend with more cars sharing the road, more bikes travelling in curb lanes and more pedestrians crossing at intersections and waiting for you at stops – especially children and teens returning to school, some of whom are new riders.

The back-to-school rush has returned so please take extra precaution over the next several weeks and watch out for the following:

  • Be aware of kids and teens walking with their heads down or texting or listening to music with headphones or iPods.
  • Stay alert as increased crowding at bus and streetcar stops may nudge people closer to the edge of the curb.
  • Stay focused as higher passenger volumes on station platforms may cause people to move closer to the yellow line or drop objects to track level. Extra caution should be used when closing train doors.
  • Please watch out for pedestrians and cyclists who may not be watching for you, and use extra vigilance at pedestrian cross walks.

Stay focused. Stay safe.
