Use of TTC Commuter Parking Lots – Follow-Up

Starting Jan. 1, 2017, TTC employees will need to pay to park at TTC commuter parking lots only.

From the Human Resources Department

Starting Jan. 1, 2017, TTC employees will need to pay to park at TTC commuter parking lots only.

Why is this change happening?

Three main factors are behind this change:

  • Increasing numbers of customers paying to use our commuter lots.
  • Growing budget pressures for 2017.
  • Some lots closing for development opportunities.

With 1.8 million daily trips on the TTC and fewer than 12,000 spaces available across 25 commuter lots, customer demand for these spots is growing rapidly. These extra demands on our parking system mean that we are no longer able to provide free employee parking at commuter lots.

What does this mean for you?

You can continue to use your TTC employee pass to park at commuter lots until Dec. 31, 2016. Starting Jan. 1, 2017, employees who wish to use the commuter lots can continue to do so by paying the posted rates, which range from $2-$7 daily during the week, with free parking at most lots on weekends and holidays.

Further, employees can continue to park for free in unassigned spots at most TTC divisions, yards and carhouses.

As always, your employee pass allows you to ride the TTC at no cost.

We know this is not positive news, but as we head into a very difficult round of budget discussions, and as our own customers now pay for parking where Metropass customers didn’t up until 2009, difficult decisions have to be made.

Thank you for your understanding.
