TTC Five-Year Corporate Plan 2018-2022 & Beyond

Hi everyone,

On Jan. 25, our Board unanimously approved the new TTC Corporate Plan 2018-2022. A tremendous amount of work has gone into this over the last nine months and I’m excited to share this with you. This Plan builds on the foundation laid by the last Corporate Plan and the direction of the Board during that time.

We’ve achieved a huge amount since 2013. From reversing service cuts and increasing service to making incredible strides on accessibility across the system, I’m proud of the accomplishments we’ve made over the last five years.

Yet, as successful as the last Corporate Plan was, it was the TTC’s first one ever and wasn’t written with lots of input. This new Plan is different.

TTC Corporate Plan 2018-2022

It’s the direct result of listening to the needs of employees, our customers and partners. It also reflects the direction of the Board and aligns with the City’s Official Plan.

The Plan itself is organized into five Critical Paths, with safety and security as a cornerstone of everything we do. These Critical Paths are the areas we need to focus on in the next five years to set ourselves up for the next 25 years. As the Plan notes on the front page – this is what will advance us to the next level.

The five Critical Paths are:

  • Transform for financial sustainability.
  • Enable our employees to succeed.
  • Move more customers more reliably.
  • Make taking public transit seamless.
  • Innovate for the long-term.

If you look at our Vision and Mission near the front of the Plan, you’ll notice a few things. The first is that we’ve added the word accessible to our Mission because a more accessible system benefits everyone. The second is the addition of what we call The TTC Way. This is a new expression of our values. It puts in very simple terms what we all need to be doing every day to keep Toronto moving:

  • Respect one another.
  • Value each other’s time.
  • Tell people what’s happening.
  • Stay safe.
  • Mind your space.
  • Help others out.

The TTC Way was created by a group of TTC employees and customers working together and these are shared commitments with our customers, co-workers, leaders, partners and communities. If you look in the Plan, you’ll find detailed commitments for all those groups. We publicly announced this new commitment and we will be sharing a lot more of The TTC Way in the coming weeks and months.

There’s too much in this Plan to go over in detail, but I encourage everyone to take the time to read the Plan, take note of how you or your department are impacted and ask questions – your managers and department heads should all be familiar with this Plan and available to answer questions.

I’m well aware that 2018 is already underway and we have a lot to deliver this year: PRESTO, Stations Transformation, the CBA, Wave 1 of SAP, RGS, two-hour transfers, King Street Pilot, Bombardier, our new Consolidated Operational Control Centre, adopting KPMG recommendations for portfolio management, upgrading radio and PA in the subway and more. It’s all part of the Plan and I am ready and excited to work with all of you to make it happen.
