Gary Shortt

The TTC is pleased to announce the appointment of Gary Shortt to the position of Chief Operating Officer of the Operations Group. The appointment was effective on March 9, 2014.

Shortt was Acting COO since October 2013 prior to his recent promotion. As COO, he is responsible for the following areas: Subway Operations, Plant Maintenance, Streetcars, Bus Maintenance, Revenue Operations and Operations Control.

Shortt joined the TTC as a Project Engineer in 1983. Three years later, he became Superintendent of Architectural/Mechanical Design. In 1990, he took the post of Co-ordinator of Plant Operations.

He held progressively responsible positions and in 2007 he was appointed General Superintendent of the Plant Maintenance Department. Shortt held the Head post until being tapped as the Operations Group’s Acting COO last year.
