Jamaal Myers appointed as TTC’s new Chair
Toronto City Council, yesterday, appointed the following new Councillors to the TTC Board: Jamaal Myers, Josh Matlow and Dianne Saxe. Councillor Myers was appointed as TTC Chair.

The six elected representatives join the four current citizen Commissioners: Joanne De Laurentiis (Vice-Chair), Fenton Jagdeo, Ron Lalonde and Julie Osborne.
The composition of the TTC Board was increased by one elected representative for a total of 10 members: six Councillors and four citizen members. The Board’s term runs until December 31, 2024.
TTC mourns the passing of ACAT’s Sam Savona
It is with deep sadness that I let you know that Sam Savona, former Chair of the Advisory Committee on Accessible Transportation, passed away on August 5. Mr. Savona was a long-time member of ACAT. He was an inaugural member of the committee when it was formed in 1993, and went on to serve twice as its Chair.
In 2013, Mr. Savona received the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship. Mr. Savona was a powerful advocate for accessible transit services for people with disabilities. As a member of ACAT, he worked relentlessly to improve Wheel-Trans services and was instrumental in persuading the former Metro Council to install elevators in subway stations.
Stuff-the-Bus with backpacks and school supplies
This weekend, we are asking Toronto to stuff a bus with new backpacks and school supplies. The TTC will have a bus parked at the Walmart Supercentre located at 165 N Queen St. in Etobicoke, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on August 12 and 13. Donations are being collected for children and teens in Neighbourhood Improvement Areas around the city. The Stuff-the-Bus event will support the Toronto and Region’s Chapter of the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) annual backpack and fundraising drive underway in our workplace, which continues until August 23.
Finally, I want to thank everyone who joined us at the Caribbean Carnival Grand Parade last Saturday. More than 150 employees and friends had a fantastic time dancing along Lake Shore Boulevard. A special thanks to all of our staff and crews who ran the extra service for thousands for revellers and spectators attending the all-day carnival.
Stay safe.
