Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
This week, the TTC announced that train service on Line 3 will remain permanently shut. Train service was originally scheduled to end on November 18, but was suspended following the derailment near Ellesmere Station with frequent shuttle bus service operating in its place.
TTC contractors, working with the City of Toronto Transportation Services Department, began the installation of temporary road markings and signage to establish bus-only lanes. Other features to allow buses quicker movement through mixed traffic will be rolled out over the next three months. Changes to the bus terminal at Scarborough Centre Station are scheduled to be completed early in order to accommodate Line 3 Bus Replacement.
This decommissioning is a significant moment for many TTC employees who have operated and maintained Line 3 and its stations. We will be celebrating employees who have had a hand in its 35-year history in the months ahead.
Saying goodbye to 2023’s summer and co-op students
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of personally thanking and congratulating all of our summer and co-op students who are completing their work terms across the TTC this month. We held a special event at Bay Lower this year to emphasize our commitment to expanding and improving the student experience, while fostering a diverse and talented workforce. Each year, our student force plays an essential role in serving our customers and helping us be the better way. I also let the group know that many in our workforce started out as students and went on to have long and rewarding careers in a variety of fields and vocations. My thanks to all the participating departments involved in organizing this special event for our young talent.
Welcome to our new Chief People Officer
Finally, please join me in extending a warm welcome and your support to our new Chief People Officer, Shakira Naraine. Shakira officially started her new role last Monday, bringing more than two decades of experience working in the human resource sector to the TTC. Shakira oversees the Human Resources, Operations Training Centre and Employee Services and Systems departments, and is an excellent addition to the Executive Team.
