Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
At next week’s Board meeting, I will have the pleasure of introducing Commissioners to the TTC team that took top honours at the IYAI+ Innovation Challenge. The TTC team competed with other teams from transit systems across North America. Along with congratulating our young talent for their innovative thinking, we will also salute the TTC’s cricket team, the Red Rockets, for capturing the 2023 Mayor’s Cricket Cup.
The July 12 Board meeting will be the last before we break for the summer. There are several reports before the Board for approval. Here is a brief summary of some of the items on the agenda:
• Warden Station Bus Terminal Redevelopment: This report is to award a construction contract for station accessibility and new bus terminal, with portions of land to be transferred to CreateTO for future residential development.
• Wheel-Trans Transformation Program: This is a status update on the progress of the Wheel-Trans 10-Year Strategy since the last update to the Board in June 2022.
• St Clair West Loop Replacement: This report is to award a construction contract for the complete refurbishment of the streetcar loop, scheduled between October and December of this year.
• Bloor-Yonge Capacity Improvements: This report is for a contract award for utility works required in advance of major construction on the new station structure.
The Commission meeting starts at 1 p.m. and will be live-streamed on the official TTC YouTube Channel. Board meetings will resume in September.
Indigenous Peoples Month Showcase
Tomorrow is the Indigenous Peoples Showcase at Hillcrest Complex from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. I want to invite everyone to drop by to celebrate the culture, creativity and successes of the Indigenous community through great food, music, spoken word and dance performances. The original date of the showcase was postponed due to an air quality warning by Environment Canada. Hope to see you all there.
Stay safe.
