Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

At our Board Meeting on Monday, June 12, we are introducing the TTC’s second Diversity and Culture Annual Report. This Annual Report, EDI in Motion, presents an update on how we did in the year in achieving the objectives laid out in the 10-Point Action Plan for Diversity and Inclusion just over two years ago. This is an important part of the culture change underway at the TTC. In making equity, diversity, and inclusion priorities for the TTC, we are building an organization where employees feel like they belong and our customers feel welcome.

I encourage you to read the report when you get a chance. Together, we will build a more inclusive TTC.

At next week’s meeting, I will have the pleasure of introducing Commissioners to Special Constables Jay Suvendrakumar and Petar Milenkovic. Their skills and quick action under pressure help save the victim of an opioid overdose at Bloor-Yonge Station. The person was very fortunate that our Constables were nearby on routine patrol and administered naloxone before emergency crew arrived on scene.

Monday’s public meeting will also provide me the opportunity to update the Board about our comprehensive communications plan to inform riders on the decommissioning of the Scarborough RT. The last day for the SRT train service is targeted for November 18. Express buses are scheduled to start running the following day on November 19.

The TTC Board will be addressing several significant reports. These reports include a Community Safety and Security Update as well a as report on Sustaining a Reliable Transit System to Keep Toronto Moving: Outlook 2024 and Beyond.

The meeting starts at 10 a.m. and will be live-streamed on the Official TTC YouTube Channel.

Indigenous Peoples Month Showcase postponed
Unfortunately, we will be postponing the Indigenous Showcase event planned for this Saturday, June 10, due to Environment Canada’s air quality warning.

We will continue to monitor the forecast and will look for a new date. Many of our colleagues and Indigenous partners have worked hard to bring this event to us and we look forward to the opportunity to celebrate in the future.

Stay safe.
