Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

The TTC has kicked off Asian Heritage Month in May with an internal campaign featuring some of our employees of Central, East, Southeast, South and West Asian heritage. All share aspects about their rich culture and what the month means to them.

Recognizing Asian Heritage Month is an important part of our broader commitment to a more equitable and inclusive transit system for everyone. We have achieved a lot of good work through our 10-Point Action Plan and Five-Year Diversity and Human Rights Plan, but we know there is still more work ahead as we continue building programs and initiatives to address racism and discrimination.

Diversity and inclusion remain priorities for this organization, and the TTC needs to reflect communities that it serves. We are striving to do all we can to ensure the TTC is a welcoming place for all.

Next Board meeting: Monday, May 8
I want to remind everyone that the next TTC Board meeting takes place on May 8. The agenda includes staff reports on a number of major items, including the TTC Special Constable Service 2022 Annual Report, a contract award for Islington Station redevelopment as well as a report requesting the approval to purchase new Wheel-Trans buses for delivery in 2024-25.

The public meeting will be live-streamed on the TTC’s official YouTube channel, starting at 10 a.m.

Bloor-Danforth Subway celebrates an important milestone
A significant subway milestone is coming up next Wednesday. Fifty-five years ago, on May 10, 1968, the Bloor-Danforth Subway was officially extended west to Islington Station (Etobicoke) and east to Warden Station (Scarborough).

The two extensions (from Keele in the west and from Woodbine in the east) increased the total length of the TTC’s Bloor-Danforth line (Line 2) to 22.5 kilometres.

Events like these are important reminders about how the TTC really is the lifeblood of Toronto. It’s important to remember just how much the communities we serve rely on us, and how we have proudly served our city and customers for decades. Thank you to all our employees for your dedication and hard work.

Stay safe.
