Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

This week, we introduced the Trauma Assist Program to support staff and workers exposed to traumatic incidents in the workplace. In our line of work, whether frontline or behind the scenes, there are sometimes unavoidable situations that employees witness or are involved in that will impact their mental health and well-being. This new initiative offers specialized care to treat individuals, manage symptoms, and build resiliency through a flexible program that adapts to the needs of each individual.

The program is voluntary, confidential and available for all employees who experience a workplace trauma, such as a traumatic injury, violent act, witnessing violence or death. To access it, along with other support, employees can call Telus Health at 1-800-572-0039 or TTY: 711 (TTY to voice) or 1-800-855-1155 (Telecommunications Relay Service). Support is also available online at the MyEAP App or workhealthlife.com.

Halloween Fest success!
I want to thank everyone involved in organizing another spine-tingling Halloween Fest on the TTC this past weekend. The ghoulish two-day event brought more than 12,000 people down to Bay Lower and helped us to raise donations to United Way Greater Toronto. Fun-filled activities included a haunted train and a Trick-or-Train for children of all ages.

A special thanks to crews at Harvey and Carpenters shop for the custom decorations and to Joe’s No Frills and Loblaws Bloor City Market for donating all the treats for our guests. I am already looking forward to the thrills and chills in store for next Halloween.

Take Our Kids to Work Day
The TTC’s annual Take Our Kids to Work Day on Wednesday included more than 90 Grade 9 students of employees who could not otherwise visit a TTC parent in their workplace. They heard from guest speakers and received guided tours at Transit Control, Bay Lower, and Harvey and Duncan shops. Thank you to everyone involved for making memorable experiences for our youth.

The professionalism and dedication of the TTC’s workforce never fails to impress. The last couple of months have seen a lot of challenges around the world and in Toronto. I want to thank everyone at the TTC for you keeping Toronto moving. Thank you.

Finally, please remember to buy a poppy when you encounter a veteran in the system, or in the community, and thank them for their service.

Stay safe.
