Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

First and foremost, I want to thank everyone involved in organizing another successful Public Forum on Accessible Transit this past Monday. It was great to be back in person this year at the Toronto Reference Library to share experiences with staff and the public.

As you know, hearing directly from our customers is absolutely essential in helping us to get our service right. The forum is also our opportunity to update customers on the many accessibility initiatives recently introduced or underway, such as the wayfinding pilot at York Mills Station, the trial of rear-door chimes on buses, Community Bus improvements, and the launch of the Wheel-Trans mobile app.

Major capital projects discussed included:

• Elevator construction underway at 15 subway stations.

• Expansion of our accessible streetcar fleet by 60 vehicles over the next couple of years, with the first two new cars already on property.

• Renewal of the Wheel-Trans fleet, with the remaining 30 seven-metre buses scheduled to arrive in Q1 2024.

We are working around the clock to make sure the TTC is everyone’s transit system.

TTC launches annual poppy campaign
This morning, the TTC was honoured to join Canadian veterans and Davisville Public School students at Leslie Station to formally launch the Toronto Royal Canadian Legion’s annual TTC Poppy Campaign. Poppy donations continue until Remembrance Day.

As has been our tradition for many decades, the TTC is honoured to provide current and former members of Canada’s military with free rides on Remembrance Day, Saturday, November 11.

Happy Halloween!
Finally, there is no better way to get ready for Halloween than with a visit to Halloween Fest at Bay Lower Station this weekend. TTC volunteers are set for a “scary good time” for families and people of all ages to raise money for United Way Greater Toronto. We are looking forward to seeing everyone show up in costume. There will be lots of fun activities, including a haunted train and a Trick-or-Train train for children of all ages.

Halloween Fest takes place from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets at the door are $5 per entry, and kids two and under are free. All proceeds go to the TTC/United Way campaign.

Stay safe.
