Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

On Wednesday, we officially kicked off our 2023 fundraising campaign for United Way Greater Toronto with a pep rally and flag-raising event at Hillcrest Complex. We were joined by Mayor Olivia Chow, Commissioner Josh Matlow, and United Way President and CEO Daniele Zanotti to announce our fundraising goal of $800,000.

The pep rally is our opportunity to thank and cheer on our campaign organizers and volunteers who do a fantastic job every year to raise awareness about payroll donations as well as opportunities for all of us to get together for a great cause. A special thanks to TTC’s campaign chairs Kathy Wyeth and Nancy Whitford for their amazing leadership every year. My hope for the 2023 campaign is that everyone takes time to give what they can, lend a hand, and have some fun at the same time.

The generosity of employees and pensioners always impresses. We have all seen firsthand the need that is out there, and know very well that the United Way and its agencies do important work to help people live with dignity and independence.

Greenwood Shop Open House
I want to personally invite everyone to our open house at Greenwood Shop on Saturday, September 16 at 9 a.m. Employees, pensioners, families, and the public will have the opportunity to explore our subway maintenance and infrastructure facility, take a guided tour, or try out the virtual subway simulator. Last year, more than 2,000 people visited the Hillcrest Complex open house and we expect a good turnout this year as well. Admission is $5 for adults and $2 for children 12 and under with all proceeds going to the United Way.

There are lots more terrific fundraising events coming up, including a garage sale at Danforth Division on Saturday, September 23. Check out posters and TV screens in your workplace for more information.

Line 3’s Farewell Party
As you know, last month, we confirmed that train service on Line 3 would be ending permanently after 38 years. The SRT had been serving TTC customers since 1985, and was supported by thousands of TTC employees over the years. To bid farewell and wish Line 3 a “happy retirement”, we will be holding employee and public events on Saturday, September 23 at Scarborough Centre Station. All employees and their families are welcome to attend. More details are outlined below.

Stay safe.
