Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

The TTC is busy preparing for significant improvements to service starting with the September Board Period. On Sunday, September 1, we will be enhancing service frequency to reduce crowding and match service with projected ridership demand.

We will also be addressing gaps in the 10-Minute Network as well as making adjustments to reflect changes in demand as a result of the One Fare Program, which was introduced on February 26.

Service changes include service adjustments as approved in the 2024 Annual Service Plan, and new schedules on more than dozens of bus routes system-wide to improve service reliability and ensure that buses arrive and depart, as scheduled.

Additional service changes and improvements are also being planned for October and November.

Salute to our student workforce
This week we begin to say goodbye to our summer and co-op students. The official farewell took place at the Toronto Zoo yesterday, where we thanked more than 400 students in our workforce who have all done an amazing job these past several months. Our efforts through the summer to provide the very best service to our riders have been in large part successful thanks to their support.

Summer and co-op students play an important role at the TTC. They bring fresh perspectives, new energy and endless enthusiasm to the workplace. Their growth and development as employees is our continued development as an organization. As CEO, I wish them all great success in the career paths they choose. No doubt we will see many of them back full-time in the future.

My thanks to Toronto Zoo staff, who helped to facilitate our visit, and to our staff, who helped to organize this special farewell.

10 years ago next week ...
It was a decade ago, on August 31, 2014, that the TTC introduced its first accessible streetcars (#4400 and #4403) into revenue service on the 510 Spadina route. It was a memorable moment for everyone, including myself, who boarded that first accessible ride at Spadina Station. ACAT’s Mazin Aribi and Lynn McCormick were the first riders in Toronto to board an in-service streetcar with their scooters.

Stay safe.
