Service through King and Spadina restored

After working day and night for the past three days, TTC crews have completed extensive repairs at the intersection of King Street and Spadina Avenue, which reopened this morning for streetcar service.

King and Spadina is a complex intersection with multiple intertwining cables and connectors supported by multiple poles. All of this infrastructure was repaired, inspected and readied for revenue service.

I want to thank and recognize everyone for their hard work and dedication to complete this work quickly and safely.

E-bike and e-scooter update
As 2024 comes to a close, I want to express my gratitude for the unparalleled collaboration with our union partners. Our top priority remains the well-being and safety of our employees and our customers.

To that effect, we are reminding our employees and customers that lithium-ion battery powered micromobility devices, including e-bikes and e-scooters, are banned on the TTC until April 15, 2025. The ban, which is in response to safety concerns, was approved by the TTC Board at its December meeting.

Anyone operating or transporting an e-bike or e-scooter onboard vehicles or inside stations will be educated on the new by-law. They will be asked to leave the system if they refuse to comply. Electric wheelchairs or other mobility devices used by persons with disabilities are allowed, as usual.

New TTC Board members
Earlier this week, City Council appointed two new Commissioners to the TTC Board. The TTC welcomes Deputy Mayor Ausma Malik (Spadina-Fort York) and Councillor Alejandra Bravo (Davenport) for a term of office from January 1, 2025 to November 14, 2026. They replace Councillors Stephen Holyday (Etobicoke Centre) and Chris Moise (Toronto Centre).

A special meeting of the TTC Board to discuss the operating and capital budgets is scheduled in early January.

Season’s greetings
I want to wish everyone a warm holiday season and a happy 2025. We will be pausing the Weekly for the next two weeks so this will be my last message of the year.

As we look back at the year that was and look forward to exciting challenges and opportunities ahead of us, I want to thank everyone for your professionalism and commitment to our customers. You keep our great city moving.

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and restful holiday season. May this time bring peace, happiness and well-deserved relaxation.

Have a safe day.
