Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
Earlier this week, I was pleased to be joined by Mayor Olivia Chow, TTC Chair Jamaal Myers and TTC Commissioner Paul Ainslie along the York Mills bus route in Scarborough to announce significant service increases for the May Board Period.
Starting this Sunday, 24 major bus routes will see improved service, particularly during off-peak periods. For our riders, this means thousands of hours of additional service across the city, providing more room on board with more buses or larger articulated buses running on busy routes, and improving over 140,000 daily customer trips.
The TTC is increasing service to 96 per cent of pre-pandemic levels, which represents four per cent more service compared to this time last year, and our highest level of service since the pandemic.
These service changes also serve to fill gaps in our 10-Minute Network and improve service frequency on routes where demand has shifted since the closure of Line 3 Scarborough in 2023.
TTC Board meets next week
The next TTC Board meeting takes place on May 16. Commissioners will be voting on several major reports, including the TTC’s new 5-Year Corporate Plan, 5-Year Service and Customer Experience Plan, Design Services for Hillcrest Streetcar Maintenance and Storage Facility, and TTC/CUPE Local 2 Collective Agreement Ratification.
Next Thursday’s meeting will be the first for our newest citizen Commissioner, Liane Kim. She is an Internal Audit and Enterprise Risk Management executive, and currently leads the Internal Audit function at Home Trust, a federally regulated financial institution.
The public meeting takes place at City Hall and will be live-streamed on the Official TTC YouTube Channel starting at 10 a.m. The full meeting agenda is available at ttc.ca.
Road Safety Week
May 14-20 is Canada Road Safety Week, an initiative to encourage everyone to adopt and follow safe driving practices. At the TTC, safety is paramount in everything we do. With more than 180 TTC bus and streetcar routes throughout the city, we recognize the important role we play in keeping our roads safe. Throughout the month, we will be sharing safety reminders with employees and customers to promote safe driving, particularly targeted for spring and summer weather.
Stay safe.
