Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
At last month’s Board meeting, Commissioners approved a pilot to support the Revenue Protection and Special Constable Service Culture Change Program.
Starting May 27, 20 Special Constables and 20 Fare Inspectors will be equipped with body-worn cameras for the next nine months, as part of our efforts to demonstrate the TTC’s commitment to accountability and transparency while ensuring bias-free delivery of service. Customers will be informed they are being recorded at the earliest opportunity during the interaction, and the cameras are equipped with a red LED light to indicate they are on.
Recognizing National AccessAbility Week
National AccessAbility Week runs from May 26 to June 1. We’re committed to promoting and fostering accessibility and inclusion at the TTC, for both our employees and customers, and this awareness week provides us with an opportunity to reinforce that commitment.
We will have two Wheel-Trans buses wrapped with artwork by Indigenous and Two-Spirit artists who identify as having a disability. Additionally, an accessibility campaign has been launched to help our Operators best support customers with disabilities.
TTC welcomes visitors to Doors Open
This Saturday, we’ll once again open up Bay Lower Station to provide a behind-the-scenes look into the operations of the TTC as part of Doors Open Toronto. The station has been closed since 1966, but has appeared in numerous films, music videos and television commercials, including films, such as Total Recall and Resident Evil, and music videos for The Weeknd and Grimes.
We expect thousands of visitors during the 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. event and invite everyone to take a self-guided tour of this unique station. A big thank you to all the TTC employees who will make this event happen.
With Pride Month and Indigenous Peoples Month, as well as Family Day, around the corner, there are many other great events and initiatives to participate in. I look forward to sharing more on these in the coming weeks.
Stay safe.
