Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

The start of September is always a busy time for the TTC. With school returning and the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) kicking off, we know that our ridership will increase as it typically does this time of year.

Employees across the TTC have been working to make sure we are fully prepared to welcome everyone back, and I want to thank everyone for this hard work.

Starting this week, we’ve taken several actions to support our customers, especially those heading back to school, including:

• Restoring more than 100 extra scheduled bus trips and making route adjustments to facilitate students boarding at multiple locations surrounding schools.

• Increasing subway service on Line 1 Yonge-University to address crowding and shorten waits at the busiest times.

• Improving service reliability on 23 bus routes and wait times on 16 bus routes. Additionally, six new and revised routes will improve customer wayfinding, and better connect key employment, education, and retail areas in northeast Scarborough, east Scarborough, and south Etobicoke, providing more transfer-free trips for faster journeys.

• Expanding overnight streetcar service with more frequent trips on the 312 St Clair and 306 Carlton routes, as well as introducing a new 303 Kingston Rd overnight service, providing more transit options for customers.

• Launching a year-long pilot program to encourage transit use for Grade 7-12 student field trips in partnership with the Toronto public, Catholic, and French school boards.

Overall, the changes will increase frequency, improve reliability, and strengthen connections throughout the city. They also better align with the growing demand of more than 2.5 million daily weekday boardings.

TTC/United Way Campaign Kick-Off
On Thursday, September 12, the TTC is officially kicking off its 2024 United Way Campaign with a pep rally and kick-off BBQ at Hillcrest Complex. The event will also celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hillcrest Complex. Last year, employees and pensioners raised more than $678,000 in support of our communities through public events, canvassing colleagues, payroll pledges and local workplace fundraisers, and I look forward to another great, impactful fundraising season.

I encourage everyone to come out and join us!
