Message from the Executives

FROM THE CEO: April 28 is the National Day of Mourning

Today, April 28, is the National Day of Mourning — a time to honour those in our workforce and across Canada who have lost their lives, suffered serious injuries, or experienced illness due to workplace incidents. To commemorate this day, the TTC has lowered its flags to pay tribute.

Yesterday, TTC employees participated in the Toronto Steps for Life charity walk, honouring those affected by workplace tragedies, accidents or illnesses. The stories shared by survivors and victims' families served as powerful reminders of why we prioritize health and safety across the TTC.

Safety and Security is a cornerstone and key principle under the TTC's Corporate Plan. We are guided by the Safety, Health, and Environment (SH&E) Management System, which helps manage risks, improve safety performance, and fulfill our commitments under the SH&E Policy. This system is designed to minimize workplace injuries, occupational illnesses, and environmental impact.

Ensuring a safe workplace means removing barriers to safety so every employee returns home in the same condition they arrived. I want to thank the dedicated employees who serve on our 50-plus joint management/union Health and Safety Committees, who foster collaboration and ensure ongoing improvements.

Mental health is also essential to workplace safety. The TTC provides health, wellness, and peer support services, including the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) by TELUS Health. Confidential resources are available 24/7 at 1-800-572-0039 or online at one.telushealth.com.

Thank you for your continued commitment to safety.
