Message from the Executives
FROM THE CEO: Remembering the Russell Hill incident
Today, our flags fly at half mast in solemn remembrance of the Russell Hill Incident, which occurred 30 years ago on August 11, 1995.
This tragic event claimed the lives of three individuals and left more than 30 people injured when a southbound train collided with a stationary train between St Clair West and Dupont stations.
The Russell Hill Incident stands as the turning point that compelled the TTC to confront hard truths and make lasting changes. In its aftermath, we committed to embedding safety into every aspect of our operations, from how we train our people to how we maintain our systems and infrastructure. In the short time that I’ve been with the Commission, I’ve already seen firsthand the priority that safety takes in our actions and decisions.
Today, we pause to honour the lives lost and those forever impacted. We carry their memory with us, not only in reflection but in action, ensuring that safety remains a core value in everything we do.
Thank you for your continued dedication and commitment to safety.
