Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

We hosted an inspiring gathering at McNicoll this week to officially launch Black History Month at the TTC. This event celebrated Black heritage, culture, and the profound contributions of Black Canadians through storytelling and art. My sincere thanks to Chair Myers and all the special guests who joined us in unveiling the vibrant art installations now featured on select vehicles and subway stations.

I encourage everyone to learn more about the significant contributions that Black Canadians have made to our city. I also want to thank the employees who have lent their voices to the internal campaign now running in our workplaces. Thank you to Hezekiah Aderinto, Kenneth Nwosu, Shantel Phillips, Cassandra Superville, and Randy Yeboah for volunteering your heartfelt words and thoughts.

Streetcar safety camera pilot starts in 2026
On Wednesday, we announced that the TTC and B.C.-based Gatekeeper Systems will launch a streetcar safety camera pilot to start in 2026. Automatic camera enforcement technology will capture incident and license plate information of motorists who illegally pass open doors.

Cameras will be installed on four streetcars for the nine-month pilot, but no tickets will be issued during the period. The TTC has advocated for the use of cameras since 2015, and the Board endorsed the project last November. We are also developing an on-street safety campaign that will roll out in the coming weeks to remind all road users to stop behind open streetcar doors.

Safety is our top priority, and we are committed ending illegal passing that puts our customers at risk.
