Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
Earlier today, I had the privilege of witnessing first-hand Operators using the newly commissioned SmartYard kiosks at Arrow Road.
The SmartYard system enables vehicles to be assigned and located automatically. The software combines information from Clerical (Operator assignments) and Dispatch (vehicle allocation) with bus location data. The kiosk provides Operators with a convenient daily printout of their vehicle assignment and route information, among other details.
The TTC is proud to be one of the first transit systems in North America to adopt this new technology, which represents a major step in our journey in modernizing operations and improving the employee experience. Thank you to everyone involved in today’s launch.
TTC Board meets on January 27
The next Board meeting is scheduled for Monday. TTC Board and Committee reports are now available to the City of Toronto’s meeting management site, also known as TMMIS, which provides the public with improved access to official documents and decisions.
A major action item before the Commissioners will be our 2025 Annual Service Plan. Key themes of this year’s plan are enhancing connections to meet customers' needs, improving the Community Bus service, and planning for construction – from principles to practice.
The agenda also covers the 2025-2026 Subway Closures and Streetcar Diversions Forecast, Fare Collection Update, Corporate Plan Progress Update, and a Procurement Authorization to Replace Paint and Sanding Booths at Greenwood Shop.
You can watch the meeting live-streamed from City Hall on the official TTC YouTube Channel starting at 10 a.m.
Happy Lunar New Year!
Happy Lunar New Year to everyone celebrating next Wednesday! 2025 is the Year of the Snake – a symbol of wisdom, charm, and transformation.
Festivities across East and Southeast Asian communities will take place globally, including right here in Toronto, from January 29 to February 12. The TTC will join the celebrations by sharing stories from employees about how they celebrate the Lunar New Year with their families, friends, co-workers, and communities.
