Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
As we prepare to recognize Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day on March 18, I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in planning, co-ordinating, and executing our many ongoing initiatives at the TTC.
Last weekend saw shutdowns on both Lines 1 and 2 to make way for track maintenance, station upgrades, and transit expansion work.
We have an ambitious schedule to ensure that projects, such as the Line 5 Eglinton, Rogers 5G, ATC Line 2 enabling work, Scarborough Subway Extension, and critical state-of-good-repair programs proceed efficiently to meet our growing service demands. Most important of all is that the work is done safely.
Transit Operator and Worker Appreciation Day is an important acknowledgement of the commitment and professionalism of transit workers at the TTC and across North America. Thank you for all you do.
International Women’s Day celebrated
I want to thank everyone for participating in last week’s International Women’s Day event. The event brought together more than 40 women employees for an afternoon of connection, wellness and self-care.
International Women’s Day reminds us of our commitment to a more equitable and inclusive company. At the TTC, we strive for a workplace that is free of bias, stereotypes and discrimination – and where difference is valued and celebrated. I am incredibly proud of what we are doing to achieve these goals.
Wheel-Trans to receive battery-electric buses
On February 24, the Board approved a contract for five battery-electric vehicles for Wheel-Trans. Delivery is planned to be completed by 2026, which will be followed by a two-year evaluation of the buses. The pilot will help inform a bulk procurement planned to begin in 2028. At 30 per cent, the proponent has committed to exceeding the minimum Canadian content requirement of 25 per cent.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to everyone celebrating on Monday!
