Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

Asian Heritage month ends

Earlier this week, we concluded Asian Heritage Month with a special event at Hillcrest. Festivities included a beautiful song performance by Customer Service Agent Vincent Abad, who delighted all with a rendition of the popular Filipino song, Mapa.

It was a privilege to meet and hear the owners of Chinatown’s Yueh Tung restaurant, who shared a heartwarming story of their parents’ sacrifices immigrating to Canada and building a successful business in Toronto. The sisters continue working hard to carry their family legacy forward.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their experiences and making the TTC a more welcoming and inclusive organization.

Pride and Indigenous Peoples Month begin
All through June, the TTC proudly celebrates Indigenous Peoples Month and Pride Month with our customers and employees.

We kicked off Pride Month with a flag-raising ceremony at Hillcrest earlier today. Thank you to Wheel-Trans Operator Jaxson Jackson, who shared an original poem before raising the Pride flag. Indigenous Peoples Month begins with a sunrise ceremony at Arrow Road Division on Monday, June 2.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion are priorities for our organization, and these celebrations provide important opportunities to continue building a company where all employees and customers feel welcomed and respected.

Wheel-Trans buses donated
We have a long tradition of donating retired revenue vehicles to other systems and organizations where they continue serving the public beyond their years at the TTC.

Yesterday, two Wheel-Trans ProMaster 2500 buses (W567 and W578) were accepted by New Visions Toronto, a non-profit organization that provides 24-hour care to people with complex physical and developmental disabilities in the GTA.

In honour of the donation, the two vehicles were renamed Gift of Mobility (GOM) 1 and 2. The official handover took place at our Sheppard Distribution Centre in North York.

Farewell to tickets, tokens, day passes
Finally, Sunday is the last day customers can pay to ride using tickets, tokens, and day passes. Those legacy fares will only have sentimental value after June 1.
