Message from the Executives

Office of the Chief Executive

This week, I had the opportunity to meet with leaders from the major banks during a discussion hosted by the Toronto Region Board of Trade.

This week, I had the opportunity to meet with leaders from the major banks during a discussion hosted by the Toronto Region Board of Trade. Our conversation centred on their organizations’ return-to-office mandates following five years of hybrid work. As employees return onsite, bank executives stress safety, particularly concerning individuals with complex needs, and cleanliness as top priorities. These issues are not only vital to our customers and employees, but also to the TTC's reputation. I want to acknowledge these concerns and reaffirm our commitment to addressing them through ongoing and proactive measures.

Last week, we announced a new safety strategy, which includes increased safety measures across our system. I’m pleased to share that safety incidents are trending downward, thanks to the dedication and vigilance of our team.

Every employee plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. You can support our safety efforts by remaining vigilant and promptly reporting anything concerning through the appropriate channels.

Starting this weekend, we are increasing awareness of the SafeTTC App, which is a powerful tool for quickly and efficiently reporting safety issues. I encourage you to use the app and help raise awareness amongst your colleagues and customers. Additionally, please continue to uphold our high standards for cleanliness and report any issues as soon as they arise.

On Monday morning, elected officials will visit Glencairn to mark the opening of the station's elevators. It’s a formal occasion to thank our community partners, our construction partners, and the many TTC departments that worked collaboratively to make this important milestone happen. The TTC takes great pride in the hard work being undertaken to build and realize a barrier-free system. More recently, the TTC also opened elevators at Castle Frank, High Park, and Rosedale stations. Ten of the remaining 11 stations are scheduled to become accessible by the end of 2026.

Finally, it was my privilege and honour to lay a wreath on behalf of all employees at the Cenotaph on Remembrance Day. As citizens, we are reminded that the freedoms we enjoy today were bestowed upon us by the courage and sacrifice of those who have placed service above self to defend the peace we hold dear. As a company with a deep history of military service, the TTC plays a crucial role in the City’s Remembrance Day commemorations. I want to express my sincere gratitude to the TTC Honour Guard, our workforce, and our riders for participating in the moment of silence to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
