Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
Earlier this week, I was pleased to announce that Fort Monaco was appointed as our Interim Chief Operating Officer (COO).
With this leadership transition, the Interim COO role is restored to ensure a dedicated and strategic focus on the TTC’s operations. Fort will provide oversight of day-to-day service delivery, support our teams, and help maintain operational reliability. He brings deep operational experience and a proven record in transit leadership. His appointment reflects our commitment to continuity, performance, and excellence in service to customers.
Throughout the year, we will monitor key metrics, gather feedback across the organization, and evaluate how this structure supports our strategic goals. This ensures we remain responsive to employees, customers, and stakeholders while building on our success.
Yesterday, several Commissioners and I attended the Every Child Matters flag-raising at Hillcrest. It was a powerful reminder of truth and reconciliation, and I encourage everyone to participate in events this month and wear an orange shirt on September 30, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Later that morning at its second public meeting, the new Strategic Planning Committee, chaired by Commissioner Alejandra Bravo, received presentations on the TTC’s 2026 TTC Budget Update and Outlook and TTC Service Standards. Committee members also approved recommendations in two other reports – Prioritizing TTC Asset State of Good Repair to Keep the System Moving Reliably: Outlook for Capital Budget 2026, and 2026-2028 Ridership Growth Strategy: 2026 Budget Considerations (as amended). The TTC Budgets will be presented to the TTC Board at a special meeting in December.
Commissioners sit in public session on September 10. The agenda includes the 2025 Accessibility Plan Status Report, a Financial and Major Projects Update, and Procurement Authorization for the Supply of Uniforms and Work Clothing. We are also introducing a refreshed and streamlined CEO’s Report. The meeting will be live-streamed on the Official TTC YouTube Channel, starting at 10 a.m. I encourage everyone to tune in.
The TTC’s recent Stuff-the-Bus drive was a big hit, collecting 1,200 backpacks and school supplies for students through the Elmbank Community Centre. Thank you to all who contributed, and a special thanks to the organizers from Special Constable Service, Revenue Protection, Recreation Council, and Toronto Police 12 Division.
Finally, Wheel-Trans’ celebrates its 50th anniversary tomorrow. Join us at Lakeshore Division for games, family activities, vehicle displays, an all-day barbecue, and cake-cutting. Festivities begin at 10 a.m. Hope to see you there.
With gratitude and resolve,
Mandeep S. Lali
