CUPE Local 2 Collective Bargaining Update

The TTC and CUPE Local 2 have been engaged in collective bargaining discussions with the goal of reaching a fair, negotiated agreement that also takes into account the financial realities of the TTC. Employees represented by CUPE Local 2 perform important roles across TTC operations and contribute to delivering transit service every day. This is a group of approximately 700 employees in electrical skilled trades.

Today, the TTC made the decision to apply to the provincial Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development for a no-board report. At the same time, the TTC continues to engage in collective bargaining discussions with CUPE Local 2 and remains committed to reaching a fair, negotiated agreement.

Additionally, CUPE’s provincial website reports that Local 2’s members have voted in favour of a strike mandate on April 9.

It’s important to note that there is no immediate impact to TTC service or operations as a result of the strike vote or the issuance of the no board report. Both events are standard steps in the collective bargaining process and do not automatically lead to job action.

Our priorities remain clear and unchanged. We are committed to:

• Delivering safe, reliable transit service to our customers;

• Maintaining a respectful and constructive bargaining process; and

• Working toward a fair and sustainable agreement that reflects the work our employees do, while taking into account the financial realities of the TTC.

I recognize that developments in bargaining can create uncertainty. We are committed to keeping employees informed with accurate, approved information, which will continue to be shared through official TTC channels, including e-mail, corporate notices, MyTTC TVs, and the TTC website (ttc.ca/bargaining). I encourage everyone to rely on these sources for updates as negotiations progress.

We have contingency plans in place should they be required, and we will share additional guidance if circumstances change. Our focus remains planning responsibly while continuing to bargain in good faith.

Thank you for your continued professionalism and dedication to serving Toronto. Your work is essential to our customers and to the city we serve.

Kind regards,

Mandeep S. Lali
