Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
Shortly after 8 a.m. this morning, an on-duty TTC electrical worker was stabbed in an unprovoked attack near the Bloor-Yonge area while on a break, off TTC property. Thankfully, the employee has been released from the hospital and is now recovering at home.
The thoughts of the entire TTC are with the employee and their family during this difficult time, and we wish them a full and speedy recovery. We are committed to supporting the employee and their colleagues, including ensuring they have access to trauma counselling services.
I want to thank and acknowledge the quick and excellent care they received from TTC Special Constables, the Toronto Police Service, Toronto Paramedic Services, and Sunnybrook Hospital staff, and will continue to work closely with the Toronto Police Service as they conduct their investigation.
Your safety is paramount. Any act of violence against a TTC employee is unacceptable. Recent changes to the Criminal Code strengthened how assaults on public transit workers are treated, reinforcing that violence against transit workers will not be tolerated.
Incidents like this impact all of us. If you need support, I encourage you to access confidential resources available through the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) at 1-800-572-0039 or one.telushealth.com.
Thank you for supporting one another and for the professionalism, resilience, and care you demonstrate every day in service to Toronto.
