Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
As we come to the close of Black History Month, I want to take a moment to reflect and to thank you.
This year’s theme, Past, Present, Proud – Stories That Move Us, reminded us that history is not something distant or abstract. It is lived. It is carried forward through people, through communities, and through the stories we choose to honour. Throughout the month, we saw those stories come to life across our system – in our stations, on our vehicles, and through the voices of employees who generously shared their experiences. Visibility and representation matter. They spark understanding, strengthen connection, and affirm that everyone belongs.
I am deeply grateful to the employees who shared their stories, organized events, and created space for learning and dialogue. Your leadership and care reflect the very best of who we are. Our diversity is one of our greatest strengths, and building an inclusive TTC – one where every employee feels respected, valued, and supported – is an ongoing responsibility we carry together.
At the same time, I want to acknowledge that this week has also been a difficult one for our organization.
Recent events and discussions have brought forward serious and deeply troubling issues related to workplace misconduct. I want to be clear: misconduct of any kind has no place at the TTC. The safety, dignity, and well-being of our employees are not aspirations – they are responsibilities. And when those responsibilities are challenged, we must respond with seriousness, care, and accountability.
I know that for many employees, this moment may feel personal, unsettling, or heavy. Some may be processing their own experiences. Others may be supporting colleagues or carrying the emotional weight of what these conversations represent. I want you to know this: if you are not okay, you do not need to carry that alone. Support is available, and you are encouraged to reach out. Submit a report to the Human Rights and Investigation Department (HRID) portal.
This work does not end with a single conversation or statement. Creating a workplace defined by safety, trust, and respect requires sustained commitment. It requires leaders at every level to listen, to act, and to intervene when something is not right. Silence is not neutral. Our actions, or inaction, shape the culture our employees experience every day.
As we reflect on Black History Month and as we confront difficult truths about the work still ahead of us, I believe these moments are connected. Both call on us to lead with integrity, courage, and care for one another. Both remind us that belonging, safety, and dignity are foundational, not optional.
Thank you for how you continue to show up for one another, even in challenging times. Let us move forward together, committed to building a TTC where every employee feels seen, protected, and respected.
With gratitude and resolve,
Mandeep S. Lali
