Message from the Executives
Office of the Chief Executive
As the FIFA World Cup 2026™ continues into the latter steps, we now have ridership numbers for the six matches held in Toronto. Your preparedness, co-ordination, and hard work is what the numbers show – something each TTC employee should be immensely proud. Collectively, you have changed the way the world sees the TTC.
The multiple routes serving Toronto Stadium and Fan Fest for which we added service moved 1.1 million trips on the six match days, a 42-per-cent increase over the same time last year. This includes streetcars and buses on the King, Dufferin, Bathurst, Ossington, and Harbourfront corridors.
From enhanced crowd management strategies to the co-ordinated efforts of Operators, Stations staff, Transit Control, maintenance teams, staff ambassadors and many others, this success has been the result of working together as One TTC toward a common goal.
As we have planned, prepared, and delivered during the games, I’ve watched employees grow and step up in every part of the system. I am hugely appreciative of this. Thank you for your hard work and dedication. With just over a week left in the tournament, every employee should be extremely proud of what we have achieved and remain focused on the games and events still ahead.
Every day, each of you demonstrated professionalism, resilience, and a commitment to serving Toronto. Whether you operate vehicles, maintain infrastructure, support customers, or work behind the scenes, you played a critical role in keeping our city moving.
Safety and the well-being of our employees will always be our paramount priority. The assault on a TTC bus Operator Wednesday evening at Wilson Station is disturbing and unacceptable. We are conducting a thorough review of all available evidence and will continue to work closely with Toronto Police as their investigation progresses.
The TTC takes violence against employees very seriously and is deeply committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment for all of our employees. Personal safety must always come first. If you encounter a situation that is escalating or feels unsafe, seek assistance immediately through established channels, including Transit Control. De-escalation techniques may be appropriate in some circumstances, but early reporting can help ensure timely intervention before situations escalate.
If you need confidential supports, they are available. Please access the Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP) at 1-800-572-0039 or one.telusehealth.com, or speak with your Manager.
As we continue through this busy summer and the remaining tournament activities, please stay focused on supporting one another, prioritizing safety, and continuing to deliver the excellent service our customers expect.
A strong organization is built on open communication. If you have ideas or feedback on how we can make TTC even stronger, please reach out to me directly.
Thank you for everything you do. Your dedication, care, and service to our city make a difference every day.
With gratitude and resolve,
Mandeep S. Lali
